With so many deer in KC's suburban neighborhoods and parks, lots of dung (deer scat) gets left behind. My dog loves it, I say with shame. So when I went looking for the reason why, I found this from veterinarian and syndicated columnist Michael Fox, who answers questions at washingtonpost.com:
``Eating such feces is not abnormal, and it may be part of a dog's natural wisdom - possibly a source of beneficial bacteria and B vitamins. So try your dog on a tablespoon of plain, organic, non-pasteurized yoghurt, and a teaspoon of Brewer's yeast in the food daily, plus digestive enzymes and probiotics from the vet may be called for...Deer poop, like horse manure, is canine caviar to some addicted dogs. So you may have to live with it - some dogs are so obsessed with eating other dogs' feces and their own that muzzling while outside is one solution, but that could lead to near asphyxia for a blunt-nosed breed like bulldogs and pugs!''
