Bark Park at Wayside Waifs is a five-acre, off-leash park for members only (daily membership is $2; monthly, $17.50; annual, $120). The park is fenced. It offers separate areas for small dogs and puppies, multiple watering stations, “time-out” kennels and more.

Lee's Summit
Happy Tails is a five-acre park with dog agility equipment as well as playground equipment.

The James A. Reed Memorial Wildlife Area allows dog training in some parts of its more than 2,600 acres. It also has 12 lakes. It's operated by the Missouri Department of Conservation. For information, call (816) 622-0900.

The Kill Creek Streamway Park Off-Leash Dog Area, part of the Johnson County Park & Recreation District, is at the 95th Street access point of the park.

Mutt Run is an off-leash area beneath the Clinton Lake Dam in West Lawrence. It includes restrooms, a drinking fountain and water for dogs.

Thomas S. Stoll Memorial Park Dog Area offers almost seven fenced areas near the center of the 79-acre park.

The Shawnee Mission Park Dog Off-Leash Area is a whopper: more than 50 acres, including a dog swim beach. It's within the 1,236-acre park, the largest in Johnson County.

Wyandotte County Lake & Park has an off-leash dog area. The park has 1,500 acres of wooded area and a 400-acre lake with marina.

Register a lost or found pet in as many places as possible. This site offers a lost-and-found registry. Other area services follow.
To be sure a pet is returned to its rightful owner, don't list every detail of an animal's description. Require the person claiming the animal to name the “missing pieces,” show a photo of the pet or otherwise offer proof of ownership.
