Wash. dog shot with hunting arrow is recovering

SPOKANE, Wash. — A year-old pit bull mix named Lucy is recovering after being shot in the shoulder with a three-pronged, razor-tipped hunting arrow in north Spokane County.

The Spokane County Regional Animal Protection Service says Lucy underwent surgery to remove the arrow and a vet says she's lucky to be alive. The dog was hit Oct. 16.

The Humane Society of the United States is offering a $2,500 reward for information that helps lead to an arrest.

The Spokesman-Review says conviction on a first-degree animal cruelty charge carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
