Minn. woman cited for kicking seeing-eye dog

MINNEAPOLIS — Minneapolis police say a local woman accused of kicking a seeing-eye dog in the jaw has been cited for animal cruelty.

Police Sgt. Jesse Garcia says the unprovoked incident represents cruelty not only to the 6-year-old black Labrador but to the dog's blind owner.

Fifty-three-year-old Lynnette Lijewski says she and her service dog, Brook, were in a store Thursday. She says she felt the dog's legs buckle and then Brook righted herself.

As she checked Brook, a girl told her a gray-haired woman just kicked the dog.

Lijewski alerted store staff, who called police. Officers reviewed store video and arrested the 46-year-old Minneapolis woman nearby.

Brook appeared to be OK on Friday, but Lijewski planned to have a vet take a look at her.
