Fla. gets second cell phone-sniffing dog for prisons

CRAWFORDVILLE, Fla. — Florida will have a second dog sniffing out contraband cell phones in the state's prisons.

The dog, a German Shepherd named Uno, is set to demonstrate his sniffing skills at a prison in north Florida on Wednesday.

Inmates caught with a cell phone face up to five more years in prison and a fine of up to $5,000.

Florida got its first cell-phone sniffing dog, Razor, in late 2008.

The Department of Correction says that since January officials have found 300 cell phones and 84 chargers. That's a combination of cell phones found by Razor and eight drug detection dogs, who often find phones and drugs together.

In the past cell phones have been found in the soles of shower shoes and inside the layers of a roll of toilet paper.
