Mo. Humane Society urges heat safety for pets

ST. LOUIS — The Missouri Humane Society is urging pet owners to take precautions to keep their pets safe in the summer heat.
Heat indexes could exceed 100 degrees this week.

The Humane Society says high temperatures can be deadly for pets left without plenty of water and a cool, shady place to rest.
Some tips:
– Never leave a pet unattended in a parked car when the temperature is more than 70 degrees.
– Keep pets inside when temperatures are dangerously hot.
– Provide outdoor pets with fresh, clean water and shade throughout the day.
– Report cases of animals in heat-related jeopardy to the group's animal abuse hotline, 314-647-4400.
