Suburban Wis. family can't keep Gigi the pet goat

SOUTH MILWAUKEE, Wis. — Suburban Milwaukee officials say a family's pet goat named Gigi will have to go.

Gail Krug owns the Nigerian dwarf goat. She's distraught after the South Milwaukee board of health voted unanimously Wednesday night that her family can't keep Gigi because a goat is a farm animal not permitted as a pet.

She said she never thought she would live in a house with a goat, but she questions how officials could "dictate what a family can love."

Jacqueline Ove of the health department said she is a pet owner and understands. That's why the city plans to give Krug time to find a new home for Gigi.

Police responding to a call at the residence discovered the goat and called the health department.
