Arrest warrant issued for SE Kansas mayor

MCCUNE, Kan. — The mayor of the southeast Kansas town of McCune is defending his decision to shoot two dogs that reportedly were bothering residents.

Crawford County Sheriff Sandy Horton says Don Call should have contacted police before taking matters into his own hands. The department has forwarded the results of its investigation to prosecutors.

But Call said Monday that the shooting was justified. It happened Sunday after two parents called him to report that the dogs had chased their children.

Call and authorities said they had received multiple complaints about the dogs in the past few months.

Calls says the dog attacks never became violent. But he says the aggressiveness the animals displayed was intimidating residents.
